Isn't that a fun subject line?!? ha! Seriously though, I told you on Thursday of last week that I'd be sending an email today to talk about HOW I pulled myself out of the funk and some actionable things you can do if you're there too.
So, the Anti-Funk Formula just felt right.
Here's the deal, I'm obviously not an expert because I've legit been in a weird funk since 2019 but I can tell you what I know now looking back and how I actually made solid strides toward changing things.
First things first, I would say that 99% of my "problem" was that I was chasing shiny objects and was constantly distracted by what this person or that person was doing or something new that felt exciting.
So, being able to recognize that and catch myself doing it was AWESOME.
We're all on a different path, we've all got different missions and interests, and we're all a best fit for a certain type of business but sometimes we get all up in our own heads about what other people are doing that looks cool or that new thing that everybody's talking about and, well, we get distracted.
I LEGIT TEACH THIS in my "Theory of Half Dug Holes" metaphor, but for some reason I had my blinders on when it was ME doing it and I just couldn't see it.
It's SOOOO freakin' easy to get distracted and let it literally throw us off course, so, STAY IN YOUR OWN LANE.
But that's easier said than done, right?
Honestly, just realizing you're doing it will help a ton but then, skip to the third thing...
Second things second, I realized that I need a BIG goal to work towards. It's one thing to be like, "I want to make more money", or even, "I want to double my revenue", but without a real goal, a real reason behind it, it's hard to want to reach for it.
I want to give my team a raise, I want to help so many more people, I want to hire more people but really all of that didn't motivate me like it should have, what big goal did I add to my goal list this year that did?
I WANT TO OWN 5 INVESTMENT PROPERTIES BY THE TIME I'M 40 AND I JUST TURNED 36.
But it goes deeper than that.
WHY do I want to do that?
For retirement, for security, for my kids.
THAT, y'all, THAT is a good goal - when you mix an actual SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) goal with a REALLY solid WHY, one that motivates you, then you'll actually work towards them.
And lastly, I didn't have a clear who and what in mind anymore.
I had let my head get soooo cloudy that I forgot WHO I was talking to - beginner business owners, creators, moms - who knows.
What was I really helping them with?
What was I known for (or did I want to be known for)?
Where did I want all of this to go?
I honestly didn't know but I did know what I did NOT want to do/be known for/go so I stopped following anyone who made me feel like I was missing out if I didn't do those things on social.
Then, I spent about a month just dumping ideas I had, and thoughts, and questions about my business in a note in my phone. Just anything that came to mind, anything I thought about, any ideas I had went in this note.
If you've been around a while, you know I'm a big fan of "white space" and "quiet time" when it comes to making business decisions and my favorite ways to get white space is a nice long bath and a nice long walk - so I did a lot of those two things.
Finally, I blocked off an afternoon and I took out some big sticky notes and just went to down, dumping everything with the intention in mind to get HYPER CLEAR on my WHO and my WHAT.
AND I DID.
I think it was the perfect combo of realizing I was being distracted and having bigger goals that made me sit down and really think through this with clarity (I think if your head is all distracted and you don't have a big why, you can't do this because, trust me, I tried).
Do I have it all figured out? NOPE.
But do I have WAY more clarity than I did a few months ago? 100%
I actually "rented" (they don't charge for it, ha) the board room in our local library for a team meeting tomorrow where I'm going to go over all of this with my team because it's important that my team is on the same wavelength and if I don't share it with them, they can't be.
Getting stuck is SUPER FREAKIN COMMON as an entrepreneur, it's one of the reasons so many people fail - because they'll get stuck and not know how to get out of the mud and they throw in the towel.
But, it's so very important that we are able to pivot out of it because we have missions to serve our people and they need us.
Until next week!

To quote Lorelei Gilmore, that is. (Name that episode and you get a digital cookie...it's chocolate chip) Ok, so I wanna share a major revelation I had this week 'cause god knows I don't need to leave it in my brain and my brain alone to collect dust, ha. As creators, as business owners - we are constantly trying to fit ourselves into the "success" formula and we're constantly TRYING SO HARD to make things happen. Like, "Ok, I have seen ____ do X so I'm going to do X and then I'll go viral"...
Okay, you got me, I actually made that up. But really, my goal for 2024? Growth! Growth in all the things. It's been a hot minute since we've sent an email your way, but I wanted to take a moment to recap a couple of things. It's a whole new year. So I've been thinking a lot about my own goals for my business and beyond and what I want to make happen this year! You may have noticed that I've ramped up the YouTube videos, I've got weekly podcast episodes for you to enjoy, weekly blog posts and...
TikTok has been a hot topic this year due to potential bans, privacy concerns, etc. But at the end of the day, TikTok is still an extremely popular app whether you're using it to recreate TikTok dances, content marketing or something in between. It's estimated that TikTok has 50 million daily users, just in the United States. So let's talk a little bit about how to grow on TikTok and why you should consider it! TikTok is still popular and presents a great opportunity for individuals and...
